Chat

00:02:16 Janet Hoover: My win (of sorts lol…mostly think it's cool) the site I launched last week had its own mini spotlight on a live Rick Steves Travel event last night. My client is a tour guide for him part of the year and co-hosted the event. Her new site was pulled up on screen and they talked about how clear, informative, lovely, etc it is for a hot second. Already getting reach outs from her followers. 🎉

00:04:00 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Sent the new iteration of my copy strategy guide out to two clients. Have been researching and working on it for probably around a month now so that felt lovely!

00:05:33 Karen: My ideal client finally got back with me and said they are still interested. Just waiting for them to book a consultation.

00:10:59 Erica Nash: For those of you who have just joined, if you have questions here is the link: https://airtable.com/shrQMjgC7CiiWTBsh
00:13:56 Caitlin Harrison: just added a question
00:17:24 Erica Nash: Reacted to “just added a questio…” with 👍
00:25:33 Janet Hoover: Do they want results here ▪️ here ◼️ or here ⬛️
00:31:52 Caitlin Harrison: I don’t have a DIY package
00:32:24 Robin Smith: Why do you havew to offer a DIY Why not just have three different levels of you doing it?
00:32:27 Janet Hoover: What do you do for your low end Caitlin?
00:32:35 Caitlin Harrison: I have a package where its a template, a simple text logo, and they provide all the copy
00:32:50 Janet Hoover: Ah, yep, same
00:32:56 Caitlin Harrison: I sold my first two this past month so I am working out the logistics
00:33:14 Caitlin Harrison: I may have over delivered on the logos because I couldnt help myself 🤣
00:33:22 Janet Hoover: I sold my first last month too lol now scrambling to do the docs, etc
00:33:30 Karen: Yes, Erica! I love the Tried & True option in The Modern Matrix that was shared with us in that email.
00:33:32 Janet Hoover: Haha! I get it
00:33:33 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Yes, my low end is more along the lines of tried and true.
00:34:07 Diana Richards she/her: Reacted to “I sold my first last…” with 😀
00:34:54 Caitlin Harrison: I am white labeling some templates too and just threw them up on subdomains for them to choose from
00:35:09 Caitlin Harrison: yep, same here Glenette, no one wanted a DIY so I shifted
00:35:15 Janet Hoover: Same
00:35:17 Erica Nash: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19-fq03PL_wqEn_7fpa35mtl2-s5gDaI_2_f5lITo9Us/edit?usp=sharing
00:36:43 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: No-one has ever asked me to DIY either but it’s such great positioning. Do you want me to write your copy? Do you want to write it with my guidance? Or do you want to write it and I use as is. Anyone who doesn’t DIY knows the low package is not an option and boom – positions the middle package without me even having to try.
00:37:37 Janet Hoover: Reacted to “No-one has ever aske…” with 👍
00:38:06 Karen: Reacted to “No-one has ever aske…” with 👍
00:39:03 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: For clarity, my lower end package is not a DIY website. It’s more like a simple website with DIY project prep. I still launch it. (Obviously this is just what I have decided works for me.)
00:39:16 Janet Hoover: Reacted to “For clarity, my lowe…” with 👍
00:39:37 Caitlin Harrison: Curious Kaila, do you still give the low end package the copy guide?
00:39:42 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Yep
00:39:50 Janet Hoover: Yep, same
00:39:54 Caitlin Harrison: and at the midlevel, how do you guide it more than the low?
00:40:01 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Top is copy done for you, middle is copy guide and I go through it with them and make suggestions, low is they just submit. No revisions.
00:40:09 Caitlin Harrison: for me its basically the same process
00:40:10 Caitlin Harrison: ooh okay
00:40:12 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: We have a project planning and copy call.
00:40:26 Caitlin Harrison: so they fill out both before the call for the mid?
00:40:36 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Yep!
00:41:01 Caitlin Harrison: thanks 🙂
00:41:07 Leigh Scott: The last time I DIY’d my plumbing, I accidentally pulled the whole pipe out of the wall. I would have paid a little bit for a plumber to tell me not to do that
00:41:11 Janet Hoover: Reacted to “Top is copy done for…” with 👍
00:41:19 Erica Nash: Reacted to “The last time I DIY’…” with 😅
00:41:22 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: I didn’t use to do copy for aaaaaanyone so it’s quite a lot different from what I did before WDA but the guide is so solid for keeping the project moving. Copy was where my clients always got stuck before.
00:41:24 Janet Hoover: Reacted to “The last time I DIY’…” with 😅
00:41:34 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Reacted to “The last time I DIY’…” with 😂
00:41:48 Janet Hoover: Reacted to “I didn’t use to do c…” with 👍
00:41:56 Caitlin Harrison: have you written people’s copy yet? thats where I’m scared of someone buying the high
00:42:31 Diana Richards she/her: Reacted to “The last time I DIY’…” with 😂
00:42:35 Janet Hoover: I have a copywriter built into my premium, but I review and make revisions/suggestions at the mid
00:43:06 Diana Richards she/her: Replying to “have you written peo…”

have you written people’s copy yet? thats where I’m scared of someone buying the high
If someone buys my write all the copy option, I’m outsourcing the copy part 🙂
00:43:39 Shannon Mattern: Caitlin if you’re scared of someone buying your high-end package… why would you ever sell it?
00:43:49 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: I haven’t, but I would use the guide for the call and then just have chat gpt help me rewrite if needed. But this is also why it was so important for me to reformulate the guide.
00:44:11 Janet Hoover: Reacted to “I haven’t, but I wou…” with 👍
00:44:19 Caitlin Harrison: I’m getting less scared, just trying to visualize how to do all the pieces
00:44:36 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: It’s also a longer timeline. I’ve seen people do quicker timelines at the top tier but mine is longer.
00:44:37 Caitlin Harrison: Kaila, would you be willing to share your version of the guide? (also totally find if you arent)
00:44:59 Janet Hoover: Reacted to “I’m getting less sca…” with 👍
00:45:02 Janet Hoover: Reacted to “It’s also a longer t…” with 👍
00:45:35 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: I’m not sure yet! Let me think on it! As a note, I did use the Storybrand framework so I owe a big thank you to the person who originally mentioned it to me!
00:45:44 Janet Hoover: Reacted to “I’m not sure yet! Le…” with 👍
00:46:08 Caitlin Harrison: Reacted to “I’m not sure yet! Le…” with ♥️
00:46:33 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: It actually probably would make more sense for me to share it after I get these two requests back too to see if I’ve missed anything big!
00:46:39 Caitlin Harrison: simpler question: what is it built in? google doc?
00:46:58 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: I used Google Docs originally and then moved it into Content Snare
00:47:01 Caitlin Harrison: I find some of my clients are struggling in content snare even though I love it so much
00:47:12 Caitlin Harrison: ooh okay I loooove how organized content snare is and visual
00:47:21 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Yes, I was just going to say – one of the two asked me if I could resend in a Word Doc so she could see it all in front of her
00:47:57 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Content Snare is the subscription I struggle with the most. Once it’s converted to CAD, I’m like….’am I using this enough for it to be worth it? But when I do use it, it’s so smooth'
00:48:09 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: I have been thinking about Kate this whole convo! Memories!
00:48:42 Caitlin Harrison: I rebuilt the project planner as a branded lead magnet as a fillable pdf and wonder if I just do that and send PDFs for filling things out
00:49:38 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Not a bad idea! I was considering all day whether I put it back in Google and dump the subscription. I have to think on it some more.
00:50:26 Caitlin Harrison: yeah I debate that subscription too
00:51:06 Janet Hoover: Good to know about Content Snare, I haven’t pulled the trigger yet, but have been wondering how clients would like it
00:51:41 Glennette Goodbread: I have Content Snare and don't use it. Ugh! I am going to cancel it as I don't really need it.
00:52:04 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: No-one has specifically said “I LOVE THIS!” But there’s functionality that is handy (reminders, ability to make a comment on each question, character/word min and maxes, conditional stuff) – if you ever want to chat it out, you know where to find me!
00:53:12 Janet Hoover: Reacted to “No-one has specifica…” with ❤️
00:53:49 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Key word – ‘eventually’ :p
00:54:06 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: You should maybe be Canadian
00:55:43 Erica Nash: As a recovering people pleaser, I love swapping “I’m sorry” for just answering the question. I’ll usually type the I’m sorry sentence with the rest of the response, and then go back and erase the I’m sorry. It’s tough at first, but so empowering. Highly recommend.
00:55:56 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Reacted to “As a recovering peop…” with 🙌🏼
00:56:03 Janet Hoover: Reacted to “As a recovering peop…” with ❤️
00:56:05 Karen: Reacted to “As a recovering peop…” with ❤️
00:56:07 Sheila McRae: Reacted to “As a recovering peop…” with 🙌🏼
00:56:59 Diana Richards she/her: Reacted to “As a recovering peop…” with 😀
00:58:47 Glennette Goodbread: That sounds like a really neat feature. We can explore that as a separate project i.e. Phase 2.
01:00:47 Glennette Goodbread: Sometimes we assume people want something for nothing when they absolutely expect to pay more.
01:01:10 Erica Nash: “Within business hours”
01:02:32 Janet Hoover: Reacted to ““Within business hou…” with 👍
01:04:37 Glennette Goodbread: I like to give an eta. “Got your text. I'll get back to you tomorrow or the next day at the latest.”
01:08:49 Racheal Graham | GreenHouse Creative: This is just a practical thing, but I got a virtual number/text service so that I could allow my clients to communicate via text but check it and respond like email. The service I use is Text Magic, but there are a bunch of options and they’re all pretty inexpensive.
01:11:26 Angela Winter (she/her): Reacted to “As a recovering peop…” with ❤️
01:11:57 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: I also got a virtual number like Racheal – mainly so I could separate work requests from personal. (I started to hate looking at my iMessage app because it MIGHT contain triggering client communication.) Now, only some clients get my number based on their package and I don’t even respond outside of typical business hours. I try to start from the get-go so they don’t get it twisted that they can ‘just chat’ at 9pm or on a Saturday afternoon. Like training a puppy haha
01:12:25 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Yes ma'am
01:14:33 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Damn. Now I’m craving some sush.
01:14:56 Glennette Goodbread: SOI
01:15:03 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Reacted to “SOI” with 😂
01:16:41 Glennette Goodbread: I had a demanding client once so I let him know I would no longer be able to work with him. He emailed me a few weeks later basically saying “I know we got a divorce but if I behave, can we work together again…”
01:17:54 Glennette Goodbread: I had someone call me unprofessional for letting them get so behind on their invoices.
01:17:58 Diana Richards she/her: Bye all!
