I am also working my way through the paid discovery call module and definitely excited to rework this offer soon.

00:28:23 Casey Nishikawa Morrin: I’m still struggling to put together my Patricks
00:28:48 Michelle: What kinds of things do people typically include? Mine are pretty small at the moment. Somewhere between monthly to daily backups and security scans, a specific number of support tickets, plugin updates…
00:28:51 Erica Nash: Replying to “I’m still struggling…”
Due to not understanding the strategy or time/etc?
00:29:27 Michelle: I'd love local SEO, social media, content creation, and overall packages, too.
00:29:49 Tracy Trathen • e design studio, LLC: That’s what I do (WebCare plans – i.e. maintenance and updating the backend).
00:29:49 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: What are some good options to include in retainer packages which help hold the boundaries of client communication. (Aka…just because they are on a retainer, doesn’t necessarily mean they get access to me ALL the time)

If you guys are curious about mine (and what I include) – look at my website and look under “WebCare Plans” in my header’s dropdown menu.
I’m still tweaking these and am possibly going to change how my page is set up a little.
00:36:20 Katheryn Symington | Web Designer: This may or may not fall in the retainer package options – What about a subscription model, where your client pays you a monthly fee and every 3 years you do a re-design and keep the website fresh.

00:38:29 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Yes.
00:38:34 Casey Nishikawa Morrin: I am ON retainer, but I dont have a website to tell anyone about it.
00:38:36 Carol: 👍

WebCare (silly autocorrect)
00:38:56 Meg McConnell: Yes – monthly web site maintenance
00:38:59 Katheryn Symington | Web Designer: I'd like to, but now doing it now.
00:39:04 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Yes.
00:39:05 Carol: No
00:39:05 Casey Nishikawa Morrin: Replying to “I am ON retainer, bu…”
Because I dont feel ready to take on new clients until my systems and Patrixs are ready
00:39:07 Meg McConnell: No – just one level for everyone
00:39:07 Lynn: No.
00:39:13 Tracy Trathen • e design studio, LLC: No. Not yet
00:39:23 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Replying to “Yes.”
Well, most.
00:39:45 Meg McConnell: It solved a problem clients were asking for help with
00:39:47 Casey Nishikawa Morrin: Consistent monthly income, flexible hours, minor touchpoint on edits.
00:39:48 Michelle: The one client I have right now was pre-Patrick. The overall marketing one I pitched was Patricked. Unfortunately, they AGRESSIVELY ghosted me. lolololol
00:39:49 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Can you repeat that Erica?
00:40:02 Carol: It seemed like an easy way at the time to capture them as an ongoing client.
00:40:04 Meg McConnell: Dislike – most clients want to prepay so it's not really monthly revenue, tracking the time I spend, scope creep
00:40:29 Carol: Dislike the constant drain on time
00:40:38 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Replying to “Can you repeat that …”
Thanks! Selling retainers has been so much easier with Pat. Boundaries, boundaries, boundaries!
00:40:41 Lynn: I was offering maintenance plans pre-Patrick and it was a one-size fits all.
00:40:44 Tracy Trathen • e design studio, LLC: I didn’t offer it under Patrick but it’s set up as Patrick (sort of) on my website….
Not sure how to answer the Q.
They always go for my smallest one just to get the job done but it might be because I’m presenting it wrong.
00:40:45 Casey Nishikawa Morrin: I would love to be able to have a menu of options for clients to pick and choose from, instead of letting clients come with a “I have $500 for social media work”
00:40:58 Carol: Nope
00:41:11 Casey Nishikawa Morrin: Yes. I need to hit 35 hours
00:41:13 Lynn: No
00:41:34 Tracy Trathen • e design studio, LLC: Only one part of it – (number of hours for any content updates – depends on which plan for hours).
00:41:39 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Darn, I missed that q again. Sorry!
00:41:42 Meg McConnell: Yes, but it's a lot of little requests that are annoying to track, or if they don't request anything one month I feel like I need to come up with a SEO/maintenance task to give them anyways
00:41:43 Michelle: I was very careful with boundaries on the one I have right now, and I have set up some automated systems that keep it from becoming draining. I use a program that runs daily security scans, backups, checks performance, generates reports for what has been done. I can also update plugins and themes from this dashboard. So amazing.
00:42:05 Liz Lee: I have my Website Care and Support plans differentiated by number of service requests per month (with definitions and examples of what constitutes a service request).
00:42:18 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Gotcha. Mine are not.
00:42:30 Carol: One of mine is. They never ever use it all.
00:42:31 Meg McConnell: Mine is 1 hour a month + better response time/emergency help
00:42:39 Michelle: Replying to “I was very careful w…”
It also includes 5 support tickets, but she almost never uses them.
00:42:42 Tracy Trathen • e design studio, LLC: Only WebCare (has hosting and a bunch of other stuff).
Thinking about doing some sort of content retainer package but not sure.
00:42:45 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: Maintenance. I have offered other kinds but no successful sales.
00:42:51 Carol: Hosting Content Management Weekly Updates
00:42:57 Liz Lee: Web care bundled with hosting
00:42:59 Lynn: Web maintenance + updates and unfortunately social media management.
00:43:03 Meg McConnell: Only web maintenance. I do another one that includes design/social media work and do not enjoy it enough to offer to anyone else
00:43:12 Michelle: I offer website maintenance, social media, local SEO all on retainer.
00:43:15 Katheryn Symington | Web Designer: I do website maintenance.
00:44:11 Meg McConnell: Dislike social media support in general, more instant response/availability/last minute requests, have to keep up with each client's events/needs/etc.
00:44:18 Liz Lee: I used to have retainer packages that included social media content creation and posting, but these platforms change so often, it was frustrating to keep up with it and was not enjoyable for me at all.
00:44:42 Meg McConnell: Reacted to “I used to have retai…” with ❤️
00:45:14 Michelle: Replying to “Dislike social media…”
Those were some of the levers I pulled in my Patrick. Nimble, Flexible, and Basic had different response times. They paid more for same-day changes and only have until 2 pm to request changes.
00:45:58 Tracy Trathen • e design studio, LLC: Time bound: No rollovers or banking at all. I am fine with it. They know they use it or lose it.
00:46:01 Michelle: I feel GREAT when they don't use the tickets! lol
00:46:12 Lynn: No. I feel perfectly fine when they don’t use it. Most of my clients I’m doing ALL. OF. THE. WORK. And not getting a lot of feedback from them.
00:46:14 Carol: No, They pay for a full year at once, allotted number of hours per month. Pay extra if we go over.
00:46:17 Tracy Trathen • e design studio, LLC: I actually love it when they DON’T use it because I’m making more money (LOL).
00:46:23 Liz Lee: Nope no rollover! I offered that once and regretted it. I don’t feel guilty about receiving the money without the workload, but I do fear that eventually they will stop the plan because they are not using it.
00:46:27 Lynn: Reacted to “I actually love it w…” with 👆
00:46:33 Casey Nishikawa Morrin: Rollovers?? What a concept. I wouldn’t know how to bill if they didn’t use it. That feels like stealing.
00:46:37 Meg McConnell: No but more often there is scope creep/additional requests and it's hard to draw the line sometimes. I do feel bad when they don't have site updates and then feel obligated to run the link checker or do something for SEO just to show that I did something that month.
00:46:38 Katheryn Symington | Web Designer: For my maintenance plans, some packages have some of my time. If they don't use it by the end of the month it expires.
00:47:07 Tracy Trathen • e design studio, LLC: Granted – my “time” based thing is very very small… so it’s not a lot they are losing, otherwise I think they would feel obligated to use it.
00:47:15 Meg McConnell: I wish I knew better ways to automate some of the web maintenance stuff (or some kind of report, etc.)
00:47:46 Kaila – HeyKaila Media: That would be fun!
00:47:48 Michelle: It's like a warranty or insurance. Some months I go to the doc and use the insurance policy, and some months I don't. Same for my car or my home.
00:47:50 Meg McConnell: I've seen bigger agencies send an analytics report or SEO data and I have no idea how to do that quickly
00:47:55 Katheryn Symington | Web Designer: I have sold some hourly white label work, and I told her up front that there's a 60 day expiry because she can drag her feet. It worked beautifully.
00:48:32 Tracy Trathen • e design studio, LLC: Reacted to “It's like a warranty…” with 👆
00:48:46 Michelle: Replying to “I've seen bigger age…”
There are sooooo many tools that do this for you. They have a cost themselves, but they make it so much easier and faster.
00:48:51 Liz Lee: I will let them know if it’s outside the scope of maintenance.
00:49:04 Meg McConnell: YES – just do the work anyways because I feel silly telling them I'm billing for an extra 15-30 minutes or whatever it is
00:49:04 Lynn: I typically let them know if it’s out of scope.
00:49:10 Tracy Trathen • e design studio, LLC: I’ve told them ‘it’s outside the scope of your plan. I’ll be happy to do that – would you like me to send you a quote?”
Interestingly, I’ve found this ONE thing easy to hold boundaries for….
00:49:17 Carol: I haven't run into it that problem… yet.

Depends if they have a helpful service!
00:53:56 Meg McConnell: Oh on the retainer side–same challenge as regular web site builds, clients often ask for things before they have the content/photos/details ready. How to manage them until they have everything or train them not to reach out until 100% ready (submit a ticket/form, etc.). Would love some advice on this!
00:54:09 Tracy Trathen • e design studio, LLC: If I know the person, no. If it’s someone I’ve only chatted with for like 2 minutes a long time ago, then maybe.

00:55:10 Liz Lee: I reached out to a referral partner and let her know my offers are in the process of getting reworked, but I do have a few slots for my Spark site (starter site for coaches and healers) before it totally changes in the next few months. She is a content creation coach who has sent me many clients over the years. I haven’t reached out to her in a while because I’ve been afraid of being overwhelmed.
00:55:12 Lynn: I’ve had some people misread it and think I was asking THEM for business and not for an introduction. I’ve rewritten it a few times and people still misread it.
